M-D back on track with wins

Toby Klasner sent a message in the first minute as the McCall-Donnelly boys soccer team downed Payette, 3-0, during a Snake River Valley Conference game played last week at the Richard Sabala Athletic Complex.Three different players snapped the net with goals – Klasner, Bogdan Monahan and Jose Manuel – as the Vandals responded to their first loss of the season by stringing together a pair of wins, also defeating Meridian’s Ambrose School, 4-1, earlier in the week. The M-D trio also combined during the first minute while squaring off against the Pirates, piecing together a passing sequence capped off by Klasner finding the net for a 1-0 advantage.Monahan converted a penalty kick in the 14th minute, then set Manuel up for a third score – a one-touch re-direct – just before halftime, giving the Vandals a 3-0 lead at the midpoint break.“The first goal set the tone of the game,” M-D coach Forrest Stanley said.Goalkeeper Michael Foster came up with three saves to earn the shutout, his fourth this season. With the pair of wins, the Vandals sat atop league standings, sporting a 5-1-1 record overall.
