August 20, 1929 – November 16, 2022 George Cole, 93, was born on August 20, 1929, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Mayme Fox Cole and Phillip Cole.
He was the middle child with older sister, Betty Jo, and younger brother, Robert. In 1941, the family moved to Boise, where dad attended Boise High School and met his future bride, JoAnne Neeb.
They eloped during their senior year and never looked back. Family and friends said it wouldn’t last, but they were one month short of 50 years when mom passed away in 1998.
They had three children, Tammy Heath, Randi Hart and Rick Cole (Joyce).
Dad’s work history included working on the Cascade Dam, working for Coca Cola, and many road construction jobs that took the family all over the state of Idaho.
In 1959, dad moved the family to Smith’s Ferry to be near mom’s family. He helped Grandpa Neeb with farming and logging until he was hired by the ITD in 1965.
He was the District Superintendent at the time of his retirement in 1991.
In 1964, he started building mom’s house. Logs for the house were cut in the family sawmill. He was so proud to be able to give mom her “dream” home.
After his retirement, dad and mom enjoyed traveling. They loved having their family and friends around, playing golf (even when his grandkids could beat him!) and just enjoying life.
Dad was proud to have been a Master Mason of the Cascade Masonic Lodge.
Dad passed peacefully at home with Randi by his side. We are so grateful to have been able to keep him at home with the help of St. Luke’s Hospice.
A special thanks to DeAnna, Sarah and Kathe for keeping dad so comfortable.
Dad is survived by his kids, Tammy, Randi, Rick andwife,Joyce.Hewasproud to have had seven grandkids and 11 great-grandkids.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. (When it’s warm! Per dad’s wishes.)
