With no tournaments scheduled, the McCall-Donnelly wrestling team competed in a series of duals last week. Adam Rushton, Jake Carr and Jake See all won matches as the Vandals squared off against Weiser in a Snake River Valley Conference dual on Jan.
Tate Ova spurred the Vandals with a massive dunk during a pivotal fourth quarter as the McCall-Donnelly boys basketball team knocked off first place Homedale, 37-32, last week on the road. Luke Scott and Rylan Pate led the Vandals in scoring with eight points apiece as the Snake River Valley Conference game went down to the wire for the second straight meeting between the schools.
Cole Olson got hot from beyond the arc while scoring 27 points, and the Cascade boys basketball team enjoyed a bit of revenge by downing Horseshoe Bend, 65-39, during a Long Pin Conference game played last week on the road.
TheMeadowsValleyboys basketball team got defensive during a 36-21 victory over the McCall-Donnelly junior varsity “B” team last week in New Meadows. Koby Rivas scored 14 points and Jake Hendrix added 13 points as the Mountaineers picked up their third win this season in a game played at the MV gym.
Solomon Childs, Jed Erekson and Rucker D’Lerma all nabbed gold as the McCall Wrestling Club competed at the Idaway Cougar Clash on Sunday at Caldwell High School. Childs won all five of his matches by pin while winning the 100-pound division for wrestlers ages 9 and 10.
Junior National Qualifier: Gavin Galyardt placed first in the skate race and Taylor Nalder placed second in both of her Nordic races at the Junior National Qualifier of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association at Bogus Bason over the weekend.
Four alpine racers for the McCall Winter Sports Club skied to first-place finishes in the Monroe Cup at Rotarun Ski Area in Hailey. The race consisted of two slalom runs on Saturday and Sunday.
Royer to compete in Iditarod Jessie Royer won her third Idaho Sled Dog Challenge last week, crossing the finish line in Cascade in just over 50 hours, 12 hours faster than last year’s winning time. In second place was last year’s winner Josi Thyr, who also bettered that winning time, finishing less than an hour behind Royer.
The McCall High School hockey team traveled to Coeur d’Alene last weekend to compete in a regional U18 tournament. The first game Friday found the Vandals facing off against the Moscow Bears for the fifth time this season.
Sam Penny scored 17 points and threw down a first half dunk as the McCall-Donnelly boys basketball team wrangled a 52-41 victory from Payette last week to win its third straight following a two-game slide.
