Cascade girls denied state berth

Kallyn Rogers scored 24 points, but the Cascade girls basketball team’s spirited run through the 1AD2 District III Tournament came to an end last week with a 61-40 loss to Garden Valley. Senior Kyler Nitzel also fought through extra defenders to score seven points, but the Ramblers’ quest to advance to the state tournament fell short during an elimination game played in New Meadows, the tournament host site.

Childs, Lee grab folkstyle gold

Soloman Childs and Asher Lee both came away with gold as the McCall Wrestling Club competed at the Idaho State Folkstyle Championships Friday and Saturday in Meridian. Wrestlers from the local club collected several top marks, including two silvers, one bronze and a fourthplace finish.

Cascade’s Olson honored

Cascade’s Cole Olson was named the Idaho Statesman’s Treasure Valley Boys Basketball Athlete of the Week after receiving more than 6,000 votes during an online poll. Olson was one of two Ramblers nominated for the weekly award, the other being Cascade senior Kyler Nitzel.

Vandals drop Payette to advance

Senior Ashtyn Jones scored 13 points and the McCall-Donnelly girls basketball team topped Payette, 51-31, on Tuesday at home during a 3A District III elimination game to keep its season afloat. Gabbi Green and Jenna Thomas each added eight points for the Vandals while Cassidy Crockett came through for seven points.

Trio of wins at Idaway

Solomon Childs, Jed Erekson and Rucker D’Lerma all nabbed gold as the McCall Wrestling Club competed at the Idaway Cougar Clash on Sunday at Caldwell High School. Childs won all five of his matches by pin while winning the 100-pound division for wrestlers ages 9 and 10.
