New look, Ramblers grow together

The Cascade Schools boys basketball team spent June assimilating a new cast of characters.The Ramblers played summer tournaments in Dietrich and Carey, with a focus on developing chemistry and teamwork.“We lost six seniors so we have a lot of work to do establishing new roles and a new team,” Cascade coach Josh Hurley said.The Rambler skipper said his squad finished mid-pack at both tournaments, but were able to face a long line of quality opponents in Kimberly, Canyon Ridge, Butte County, Buhl, Valley, West Jefferson and Liberty Charter.Of course, there were growing pains for a largely newer group that for the upcoming season will lean on returners like Cole Olson, Hayden Hull and Finn Wilkins.“There were some games where things clicked and then other games where they fell apart,” Hurley said.The Ramblers are coming off a banner campaign, finishing third at the 1AD2 State Tournament and earning a no.

Sibling wrestlers represent

A pair of siblings spent the last week of June testing their mettle against the rest of the state – and beyond – while representing the McCall Wrestling Club.Lily and Jed Erekson, 11 year-old twins, were selected to represent Idaho at the Turf Wars Duals in Pocatello, held June 24-25.Lily wrestled up on the Idaho 14-and-under girls team and submitted an 8-2 record while taking on the 75-pound division, defeating All-Americans from Utah and Colorado in the process.Jed, representing Idaho at boys 12-and-under, turned in a 4-4 record over two days of action, which featured Greco-Roman and Freestyle disciplines on separate days.Teams from Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Colorado and Montana also competed at the Turf Wars.From there, the Erekson duo did not have to travel far, continuing on to the Western States Championships, which were held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena.

Vandal hoopers put in summer work

It has been an eventful summer so far for the McCall-Donnelly girls basketball team, with players competing in tournaments, training at camps and attending a WNBA game in Las Vegas.The Vandals played in four total tournaments through the months of May and June: Boise Crash the Boards, Spokane Summers Edge, Lewis-Clark State College tournament in Lewiston and the Nets on Fire tournament in St.

M-D football competes at U of I camp

The McCall-Donnelly football team spent last week in pads competing and training at a camp hosted by the University of Idaho in Moscow.It has been just a part of a summer program that has Vandal players sharpening their skills for the upcoming season.“U of I was a great experience for our players,” M-D coach BJ Sorensen said.
