Vandals sweep SRV meet

McCall-Donnelly cross country runners put conference opponents on notice while competing at the Snake River Valley Invitational on Friday in Weiser, snaring both boys and girls team titles.Vandal sophomore Charlie Speirs also nabbed an individual crown in the boys varsity race, completing the 5,000-meter course at Rolling Hills Golf Course in 16 minutes, 27 seconds.

Vandals force Archer misfire

Three different Vandals hit the net as the McCall-Donnelly boys soccer team bullied Meridian’s Ambrose School, 3-0, during a Snake River Valley Conference game played last week at the Richard Sabala Athletic Complex.Bogdan Monahan, Toby Klasner and Caleb Anderson all beat the Archer goalkeeper with shots during the second half, giving the Vandals a second straight victory and a run of six games without a loss.The teams were tied 0-0 at half, but M-D caught fire after the break to move to 8-2-4 overall and 6-1-3 in league.Vandal goalkeeper Michael Foster was credited with the clean sheet and earned it by stopping a penalty shot.M-D coach Forrest Stanley has toyed with different formations recently, and did so again during the Oct.

Athletes tackle Cascade Lake Run

McCall-Donnelly’s Josie Leslie returned to her old stomping grounds and snared a silver finish while competing at the Cascade Lake Run cross country race, held last week in Cascade.Leslie, who ran for the 1A Ramblers last season, helped design the course during the first annual Lake Run, which took place last fall.But she missed the race while recovering from a back injury.The new Vandal made sure she could run it this time around, completing the 5-km course on the Cascade Golf Course in 21 minutes, 34 seconds.

Ramblers rumble past Riggins rival

Senior running back Cole Olson continued to find his groove, combining with quarterback Stuart Derrick to rush for more than 300 yards as the Cascade football team ground out a 34-16 victory over Salmon River on Friday in Riggins.Olson missed some early season action recovering from a shoulder surgery, but on Friday he showed he could carry the load, rushing the ball 23 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Colt gallops M-D past Cole Valley

Junior running back Colt Value galloped for 228 yards and three touchdowns as the McCall-Donnelly football team rolled past new Snake River Valley Conference member Cole Valley, 43-0, on Friday in Meridian.The game was played at recently constructed Owyhee High School in Meridian, in a new stadium that looked like it belonged on a small college campus.Most important, the Vandals moved to 5-1 with the victory, and got back on track following a setback against Weiser the week prior.“It was fun for our players to play in a bigger stadium on the turf,” M-D coach BJ Sorensen said.

Vandals nab another tournament title

Another week, another tournament title for the McCall-Donnelly volleyball team, which won eight straight matches during a gathering of schools at Caldwell’s Vallivue High School on Friday and Saturday.The Vandals finished the run of games by knocking off Snake River Valley Conference rival Weiser in the championship match, 25-18, 25-23.M-D also recorded wins over Vallivue (25-13, 25-20), Ambrose (25-11, 25-13), Homedale (25-23, 25-18), Vallivue junior varsity (25-11, 25-12), Ambrose (26-24, 23-25, 15-10), Caldwell (25-20, 25-12) and Ambrose (26-24, 25-14).The M-D netters got off to a fast start during Saturday’s title match, snaring the opening set, 25-18.

Grizzlies halt Vandal streak

Shilah Arnold delivered 16 kills and 20 digs but the McCall-Donnelly volleyball team watched its undefeated start to the season come to an end with a 20-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-18 loss to first place Fruitland last week at the M-D gym.Lexi Arnold chipped in six kills and 18 digs while Kertz came up with six kills and combined with teammate Emma Ormsby for seven blocks.It had to be the Grizzlies, who the Vandals defeated in a District III championship game last fall, only to watch the Fruitland squad march all the way to a 3A state title the very next week.The much-anticipated next round took place Sept.
