Emma Ormsby delivered a double-double and the McCall-Donnelly girls basketball team used a streak of hot shooting down the stretch to snare a victory over 5A Emmett, 48-42, on Saturday at the M-D gym.Lexi Arnold also collected nine points and nine rebounds while Izzy Tinney chipped in nine points.Arnold and Tinney joined teammate Tatum Topliff in burying the visiting Huskies with a trio of consecutive 3-pointers in the final minute, back-to-back-to-back.Ormsby’s 13 points and 10 rebounds also keyed the Vandal victory, which came during a game that saw the Huskies go up, 16-10, after one quarter.“Emmett was a tough match up with their size and length,” M-D coach Lexi Onthank said.
Rarely in the spotlight, impossible to ignore, McCall-Donnelly defender Solomon Arndt has been recognized with a selection to the 4A All-Idaho First Team for boys soccer.Arndt was not alone in being honored during a vote by state coaches, as Vandal goalkeeper Michael Foster finally got his due by being chosen for the second team.Both honors come following a sterling season that involved M-D winning a fifth straight district championship and bringing home a fourth place trophy from the 4A state tournament.Arndt, who stands an imposing 6-foot-1, has played on the back line of defense his entire high school career.
