Senior Claire Warren came through with 15 kills as the McCall-Donnelly volleyball team survived a 3A District III Tournament elimination game with a 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 victory over visiting Homedale on Tuesday. The Vandals host Parma today at 6 p.m. at the M-D gym, with the winner advancing to a state play-in game set for Saturday in Twin Falls. Gabi Green added eight kills during Tuesday’s action.
Vandal girls win team title at Tilzey X-C race in Nampa Taylor Nalder finished inside the top 10 and the Mc-Call-Donnelly cross country girls team brought home an overall title from the Winston Tilzey Invitational last week in Nampa. Nalder was first runner in for the Vandal girls, placing ninth with a time of 21 minutes, 18 seconds.
BY BEN FLETCHER For The Star-News Tyler Thurston turned in the top finish as the Cascade cross country team competed at the Winston Tilzey Invitational last week in Nampa. Thurston completed the 5,000-meter course at West Park in 19 minutes, 40 seconds, placing 60th.
Koby Rivas broke 100 yards in total offense but the Meadows Valley football team lost to Salmon River, 66-0, on Saturday in Riggins. The senior running back proved a workhorse during the Long Pin Conference game, turning 20 carries and three catches into 102 all-purpose yards.
The Meadows Valley volleyball team came up short against Tri-Valley of Cambridge, 25-16, 29-27 in the championship game of a junior varsity tournament played Saturday in Midvale. The Mountaineers swept Council in their first game to reach the title match.
The Cascade football team lost a shootout to Wilder, 46-44, last week at the Cascade Sports Park. The Wildcats scored with 12 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, 44-44, then made good on a 2-point conversion to take the lead.
Local and regional figure skaters will compete in the annual Jason Hawkins Skate by the Lake Competition Friday and Saturday at Manchester Ice and Event Centre. More than 100 figure skaters are schedule to compete, with technical free skate programs from 11 a.m.
Skiers and snowboarders can drop off their unneeded gear and shop for new equipment during the Ski Swap on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Payette Lakes Middle School. The swap’s hours include one night to drop off equipment from sellers and two days of sale hours to purchase equipment.
