Dumas scores, but Mountaineers fall

Dominic Dumas scored twice but the McCall Mountaineers hockey team was edged by the Sun Valley Suns, 4-3, on Friday at the Manchester Ice and Events Centre. Dumas collected five goals over the two-game homestand hosted by McCall, which also lost 6-3 during a Saturday game to fall to 3-3 on the season.

Rushton, Critchfield win in Grangeville

Adam Rushton and Van Critchfield were crowned champions as theMcCall-Donnellywrestlingteam competed at the Andrew Beck Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Grangeville. A trio of underclassmen – John Spilotros, Finnigan Moon and Zion Rushton – also nabbed silver in their respectivedivisions.AveryRiggsand Gavon Keegan both earned bronze while TJ Leonard and Ethan Roberts also found a place on the podium, finishing fourth.

McCall Winter Sports Club at Colorado Camp

Fifteen-year-old Luke Bruce of McCall refined his freestyle skiing skills by jumping into a massive pit of foam cubes at an indoor training facility at Copper Mountain Ski Resort in Colorado. After practicing in the foam pit, Luke then tried a new trick in the resort’s terrain park, landing it on the first try on snow, said McCall Winter Sports Club Program Director Erik Fisher.

Nordic skiers brave cold start

With temperatures in the single digits on Saturday morning, 37 Nordic skiers competed in the McCall Nordic and Biathlon Ski Club’s Winter Start Race at the Bear Basin Nordic Center. “We had a fun event with cookies, hot chocolate, glitter station, and raffle prizes for the kids.

Mountaineers playing catchup against Garden Valley

Jake Hendrix scored a teamhigh 11 points, but it was largely tough sledding for the Meadows Valley boys basketball team during an 87-29 loss to Garden Valley Monday in New Meadows. Cody Padgett also dished out a team-leading six assists as the Mountaineers played their first game in nearly three weeks, falling to 0-2 with the loss during their Long Pin Conference opener.

Vandal boys cruise past Parma

Sam Penny scored 14 points and Luke Scott added 13 as the McCall-Donnelly boys basketball team found its groove during a 6937 trouncing of Parma on Friday. All facets were working for the Vandals during the Snake River Valley Conference game, which was played on the road.
