Herd to be culled to stop disease from spreading A deer herd north of Riggins will be culled starting this week after it was determined to be at the center of Idaho’s only major concentration of chronic wasting disease. The disease was found in 15 deer from the Slate Creek area about 19 miles north of Riggins last year, according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Paige Andra led the McCall Winter Sports Club’s U14 racers as the club hosted a super-G race at Brundage Mountain Resort Friday through Monday. The races were an Intermountain Division Qualifier in the U.S.
West Central Idaho Youth Baseball will kick off its events with an open gym at Barbara Morgan Elementary on Tuesday, March 7, at 7 p.m. Other open gym dates include Tuesdays, March 14 and 28.
McCall Winter Sports Club U16 alpine racers Cooper Harvey and Josie Leslie competed in the Trudi Bolinder super-G race at Bogus Basin from Friday through Monday. The event was a qualifying race in the Intermountain Division of the U.S.
Fly fishing expo The 18th-annual Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo will kick off on Friday and Saturday at Expo Idaho in Garden City. The event, which is for anglers of all ages and abilities, will be from noon to 10 p.m.

More than 60 miles of Nordic trails in and around Valley County have opened for the winter after more than three feet of snow helped kick off the ski season last week. Grooming reports and current trail conditions are available on the McCall Nordic and Biathlon Ski Club’s website at www.mccallnordic.
