Avalanche forecasters get more tools

Skiers, snowboarders and snowmobilers will have the benefit of more accurate avalanche reports this winter thanks to two new weather stations granted to the Payette Avalanche Center.Stations will also provide hourly weather updates on wind speed, temperature and precipitation.“The weather stations track wind, precipitation and temperature, which are essential in understanding what is happening throughout the area,” said Dave Bingaman, President of the Friends of the Payette Avalanche Center.The Friends group is a nonprofit organization supporting the Payette National Forest Avalanche Center, which alerts the snow recreators to avalanche conditions throughout the backcountry near McCall.
