In May, the Board of Trustees for Cascade Medical Center (CMC) will vote on whether the hospital will remain classified as a “Critical Access Hospital” or convert to a “Rural Emergency Hospital.”Bottom line up front: Conversion to a Rural Emergency Hospital will result in greater funding for CMC (up to $900,000 per year or about 10% of our 2023 operating revenues).

McCall City Council loses battle to win war

Last week the McCall City Council greenlighted the operation of a Spring Mountain Ranch short-term rental that now will be allowed to host up to 16 guests instead of the maximum of 10 guests allowed before a conditional use permit is required.The permit was the second granted under new, stricter regulations adopted by the city in 2022 that have since been legally challenged by a group of McCall short-term rental owners.A lawsuit filed in February says the city’s “excessive regulations” violate state law by having the “practical effect of prohibiting short-term rentals,” which the Idaho Legislature has clearly established as taboo.Council members gritted their teeth and plugged their noses, but approving the permit was the right choice.

The McCall-Donnelly High School could have considered the option to reach out to the community and we would have been happy to assist in moving the little chicken coop which has stood in the school garden since 2010.
