Cattle truck overturned

About 50 cows died when a cattle truck overturned on Idaho 55 about nine miles south of Smiths Ferry last week.A 25-year-old man from Kuna was driving a semitruck with 104 head of cattle aboard when he failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the road, overturning on the right shoulder shortly after 3 p.m.

Valley County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Christensen stopped a speeder in Donnelly last week and approached the window with his usual gear and equipment, plus one extra tool, a cowboy hat.Christensen recently spearheaded a successful effort to convince his bosses to allow deputies to wear cowboy hats on duty as sun protection and a subtle reminder that deputies are the “good guys.”“Anything that you can do in this day and age to make us look like we’re the good guys instead of the bad guys, I think it’s a positive thing,” Christensen said.

Nissula reelected as Cascade Mayor

Incumbent Judith Nissula won another term as mayor of the City of Cascade in Tuesday’s vote.There were 188 votes cast for Nissula, consisting of about 71% of the vote.Challenger Dania Haselton received 28 votes and former mayor Dick Carter received 50 votes.Cascade City Council members Ron Brown and Rachel Huckaby were unopposed in their bids for re-election.

P&Z likes marina expansion

A proposal to expand Mile High Marina further into Payette Lake and add nearly 100 more boat slips was recommended for approval last week by the McCall Area Planning and Zoning Commission.The expansion would add about 1,100 feet of floating public boardwalk and up to 90 new boat slips to the 165-slip marina at 1300 E.

Sewer District, McCall to work on sewer solutions

The City of McCall and the Payette Lakes Recreational Water and Sewer District are reconvening a joint advisory group to improve coordination between the agencies.The Joint Wastewater Advisory Group, which is staffed by city and district officials, aims to help the agencies collaborate on projects that could enable more housing to be built in McCall.Last Thursday’s meeting of the group marked the first since 2020, and was the result of a joint meeting last month of the McCall City Council and sewer district board of directors.The advisory group agreed to meet monthly moving forward, starting with a Dec.
