Favorable forecast likely to calm fires

Cooler temperatures and possible precipitation are forecast for this weekend as containment increases on fires in the West Mountain Complex. The total number of firefighters on the West Mountain Complex increased this week to 1,064, aided by 200 soldiers from the 14th Brigade Engineer Battalion from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.

Donnelly adopts 2025 budget

A $2.1 million budget proposal for 2025 was adopted on Monday by the Donnelly City Council. The city will collect about $146,000 in property taxes under the 2025 budget, which includes the maximum 3% property tax increased allowed by state law.

Floating in the stratosphere thousands of feet above the West Mountain Complex fires is an experimental high altitude balloon carrying equipment to provide cell phone service to firefighters on the ground.The Thunderhead Balloon, operated by the Sioux-Falls, South Dakota firm Aerostar, launched from Baker City, Oregon on Aug.

Wolf Creek Fire nears containment

Containment on the 1,154-acre Wolf Creek Fire increased to 61% as of Wednesday, with fire managers hopeful to contain the blaze soon.“We will look to button it up completely as best we can in the coming days,” said Forest Service Public Information Officer Tim Phelps.The fire about five miles west of Donnelly atop West Mountain was started by lightning on July 24.
