McCall surveying for lead water lines

Anyone with a McCall home built before 1988 is being asked to identify the type of water line connecting their home to the city water system.The City of McCall recently released a survey as part of an effort to catalog all 3,814 private water lines connected to the city’s water system.The survey, which is open until Sept.

Boulder Fire causes temporary evacuations

About 500 residents along West Mountain Road were told to evacuate on Sunday when the Boulder Fire flared up in hot, dry and windy conditions. The entire City of Cascade and surrounding residences were told to be “set” to evacuate on Monday, amid fears that a thunderstorm could bring high winds and rapidly spread the fire to populated areas.

Fires banned by DEQ amid air quality concerns

Orders banning campfires and all other outdoor fires were issued across the region this week by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.All outdoor fires are now prohibited in 17 counties across Idaho, including Valley and Ada County because of the dangerous air quality from forest fire smoke.“The main goal of this approach is to protect public health,” said Michael Toole, a regional airshed coordinator for the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.It may seem like a small step when the smoke from wildfires is so overwhelming, but it is a necessary step to help prevent additional pollution, Toole said.“This is especially true when looking at impacts on sensitive populations such as children, the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions,” he said.

Lightning sparks new fires

Aggressive winds on Monday night downed trees and powerlines, sparking a fire near Moore Drive in Smiths Ferry and expanding the footprints of fires in the West Mountain Complex.Firefighters from the Southern Idaho Timber Protective Association and Cascade Fire responded to the Moore Drive fire at about 10:30 p.m.
