Star-News Arson is the suspected cause of a fire that burned a home under construction on Nov. 1 in Spring Mountain Ranch in McCall, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Cascade fire levy fails; MV ambulance tax passes Voters in the City of Cascade on Tuesday approved borrowing up to $4 million to build a new city well, improve water lines and install more fire hydrants. Also on Tuesday, voters in the Cascade Rural Fire Protection District rejected a permanent tax levy increase to hire more firefighters.

600 whitebark pine seedlings go in the ground at Brundage Mountain
More than 45 employees and volunteers fanned out across the summit ridge of Brundage Mountain recently in an effort to preserve the whitebark pine. Members of the group were armed with planting hoes, tote bags of seedlings, and a specific set of planting instructions for the 600 seedlings.
Maupin stays, Thompson wins easily
Sherry Maupin kept her seat on the Valley County commission in Tuesday’s election while Neal Thompson was elected to the commission. Maupin, a Republican, defeated Democrat Joey Pietri, wining with 52% of the vote for the Second District seat on the three-member panel.
McCall forms authority to oversee housing
Agency to tackle lack of worker housing A new government agency aimed at creating housing for working residents of McCall was formed last week by the McCall City Council. The McCall Area Housing Authority’s first task will be to manage the 14 homes and apartments available only to McCall residents already under the city’s control.
