Public comments on the Payette National Forest’s latest environmental study of Perpetua Resources’ proposed Stibnite Mine will be accepted until Jan. 10 at 5 p.m.
Perpetua Resources’ proposed gold and antimony mine is located in the Stibnite Mining District about 40 air miles east of McCall. Perpetua, formerly known as Midas Gold, hopes to extract about $6 billion in gold and other minerals from Stibnite, the site of historic mining operations during World War II and as far back as 1899.

Two people were killed on Idaho 55 last Friday when a pickup truck crossed the center line and set off a chain of collisions one mile south of Lake Fork, according to the Idaho State Police. The road will be open in both directions this winter as crews have stopped construction until next spring on the mile-long Smiths Ferry road-straightening project.
