Shoemaker Storage proposal on hold

The Shoemaker Storage facility, with about 97,000 square feet of space in five buildings near Donnelly, was put on hold Monday after Valley County Commissioners tabled an appeal of the proposal. The facility, which is proposed to be built on 27 acres about a mile south of Donnelly, had been approved by the Valley County Planning and Zoning Commission in a split vote Dec.

Rec Center provides ice rink

New location in Valley County Fairgrounds The sounds of slapshots and skates scraping on ice wrang out through the Valley County Fairgrounds this month for the first time on a new ice rink built by the Cascade Recreation and Aquatic Center. Last year there was an ice rink built to the south of the facility, but it was moved to the rodeo arena at the fairgrounds because of the lights and the grandstands, said Patrick Pratchett, Southern Valley County recreation district manager.

Avalanche rescue dogs certified

Dogs to be used by ski patrol, local krst responders Jess Olson trailed behind her 3-yearold border collie, Ember, as the duo raced to find two people buried under three feet of snow last weekend near the summit of Brundage Mountain Resort. Olson and Ember were among eight teams of dogs and handlers, including two local teams, that were certified for avalanche rescue Sunday after locating buried volunteers during a National Search Dog Alliance testing and training event.
