Valley County gives to housing trust

BY MAX SILVERSON The Star-News Valley County Commissioners will use $1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act to allow the West Central Mountains Housing Trust to build three affordable housing units in Cascade. The decision at Monday’s meeting was the first time commissioners have used any of the roughly $9 million given to the county by the federal legislation.

CMC declines funding, keeps inpatient care

The Cascade Medical Center decided last week that the 40 patients treated in the hospital last year were more important than $3.2 million in annual funding from the federal government. In a meeting last week, trustees considered the option of becoming a “rural emergency hospital,” a new designation that would give the hospital $3.2 million per year under the condition that all patients are transferred to a bigger hospital within 24 hours.

Rec board members approved

First meeting set for March A nine-person board to advise Valley County on recreation priorities was approved on Monday. County Commissioners appointed five people from McCall, two from Lake Fork, one from Donnelly and one from Cascade to a newly formed Valley County Recreation Advisory Committee.

Mountain lions active near river

BY DREW DODSON Homeowners in neighborhoods along the North Fork of the Payette River in McCall should be wary of mountainlions,accordingtotheIdaho Department of Fish and Game. Several sightings reported since last month have led officials to believe one or two mountain lions are staying in areas around Rio Vista Boulevard and Mather Road, Fish and Game regional wildlife manager Regan Berkley said.
