Carnival ice show set for Fri., Sat. night Surrounded by professional figure skaters from around the country, Henry Dingman of McCall will feel right at home this weekend when he takes the ice at the Manchester Ice and Event Centre.

The hardy snow sculptors who form the core of the McCall Winter Carnival created their works this year to the 2023 carnival theme, “Fairy Tales, Folk Tales and Tall Tales.” The sculptors will be competing for bragging rights, but also cash prizes for the top four sculptures in the amateur and professional categories as voted by judges, who are anonymous. Prizes for this year’s contest are as follows: First Place - $2,000 Second Place - $1,500 Third Place - $1,000 Fourth Place - $750 People’s Choice - $500 Judging begins this morning at 8 a.m.

Costs were double the expected amount The Cascade Medical Center will not add a temporary 5,000-square- foot building on the east side of the current hospital after cost estimates were more than twice the expected price. Trustees for the CMC health district had approved spending up to $1.5 million in June but a new estimate for the work came in at about $3 million.
