Lake Cascade marina open house – BOR seeks comments by April 17

The Bureau of Reclamation hosted an open house on Tuesday at the American Legion Post #60 in Cascade to gather public input on Tamarack Resort’s proposal to build a 200-slip Marina on Lake Cascade.The marina will be located in Cascade State Park within the Poison Creek Campground at the intersection of West Mountain Road and Discovery Drive.Officials were on hand to answer questions from the bureau as well as the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and Tamarack Resort.The Bureau of Reclamation has started an environmental analysis of the proposed project.Construction of the marina cannot begin until the analysis is complete, which is expected to be this fall, said Rochelle Ochoa, a Natural Resources Specialist with the Bureau of Reclamation.Public comments on the scoping period of the project are due by April 17.Comments should be submitted by email to sra-nepa-comments@usbr.gov, or mailed to Ochoa at 230 Collins Road, Boise, ID, 83702-4520.“I just like to know what the public thinks, that’s why we have open houses,” said IDPR Director Susan Buxton at Tuesday’s event.“We need more capacity,” Buxton said.

Brandon Roberts has filed as a write-in candidate for District 3 Valley County Commissioner.Roberts filed as a Republican candidate for the May 21 primary election after the deadline for his name to appear on the ballot.

Mountaineers stopped by Reno rivals

Chris Hille broke through for a score but the McCall Mountaineers hockey team dropped a Friday series opener to the Reno Ice Raiders, 3-1.The Mountaineers also ended up losing Saturday, 7-4, giving their Reno rivals the sweep during a two-game homestand played at the Jennifer O’Neal Community Ice Arena, also known as Reno Ice.General Manger John Barth said McCall was down in numbers for the trip, including just nine players available for the majority of Saturday’s contest.The losses concluded the Mountaineers’ regular season schedule.“With what we had we did really well,” Barth said.Around 800 people watched Friday as the teams battled to a 0-0 draw through the first period.

Green, Penny snare all-state

Both league MVPs already, a McCall-Donnelly duo has now also earned statewide praise for their play on the basketball court.Gabi Green and Sam Penny have been included in All-Idaho selections made by state coaches, with both players earning a second team nod for the 3A classification.Both Vandals were also recognized as All-Snake River Valley Conference Player of the Year following the 2023-24 season, sweeping the honor for both girls and boys.Green has spent her entire senior year racking up accolades.

M-D struggles versus Homedale ace

Vandal hitters will likely not miss Homedale’s Dani Sitts after she graduates in the spring.The Trojan ace again proved problematic as the McCall-Donnelly softball team hit the road for a Snake River Valley Conference tilt on Monday, but was promptly dismissed with a 15-0 loss.Izzy Pietri came up with a single on one trip to the plate, but otherwise Vandal bats came up empty against the reining SRV Player of the Year and two-time all-state first-teamer.Trojan hitters were no less sympathetic.

McCall P&Z likes daycare proposal

A proposal to convert office space on Park Street in McCall into a daycare center was aired on Tuesday to the McCall Area Planning and Zoning Commission.The proposal would see five rooms in the McCall Professional Center at 106 Park St.

Vandals stymied in SRV clash

The McCall-Donnelly baseball team struggled to get going against Homedale on Monday, falling 14-0 during a Snake River Valley Conference tilt played on the road.Cole Naugle provided the Vandals with their lone hit during the game, going 1-for-2 at the plate with a single.Trojan pitchers Chance Martell and Payton Fine did not make things easy, combining for 10 strike outs without giving up a single walk.Homedale also sprang for 10 hits, including a triple and a pair of doubles.Despite coming off spring break, the M-D defense held the home team down for two runs in the first inning and one in the second.But Trojan hitters got hot and posted 11 runs during the third inning alone.M-D fell to 2-7 with the loss, but with a short turnaround were back in action Wednesday against Parma with hopes to halt a three-game slide.
