Payette Lake water christens USS Idaho submarine

Linda Fleetwood of McCall stood by and watched as a nuclear-powered attack submarine named the USS Idaho was christened in Groton, Connecticut, on March 16.The ceremony included Terri Stackley, the submarine’s sponsor, pouring bottles of water from Idaho lakes, including Payette Lake, onto the vessel in lieu of champagne.

P&Z hears mixed use proposal fronting Payette Lake

Plans for five townhome buildings with ground level businesses fronting Payette Lake were aired on Tuesday to the McCall Area Planning and Zoning Commission.The development, called “The Hardy,” would be built on five vacant lots totaling less than one acre at 1301 East Lake St., or across from Mile High Marina.Each of the five buildings would contain about 1,900 square feet of commercial space on the first floor, and a four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom townhome on the second and third floors.The townhomes would have driveways along Mill Street and balconies overlooking East Lake Street and Payette Lake.The five vacant lots are currently owned by Nampa resident John Brandt, who was represented by Richard Wilmot of Chrysalis Architecture at Tuesday’s meeting.The vacant lots are currently leased by Mile High Marina as extra parking.

Road Advisory Board quits in protest

The entire Valley County Road Advisory Board has resigned in protest over complaints that county commissioners have not heeded the board’s recommendations.The advisory board submitted a joint letter of resignation to Valley County Commissioners in March, alleging poor departmental management and oversight.The resignation letter, and a response from commissioners is available on the county’s website at co.valley.id.us.

Pickleball club gets more county funding

The Valley County Pickleball Club was given $37,000 from Valley County to finish nine courts on East Lake Fork Road—in addition to the $350,000 the county has already provided.The initial $350,000 allocation from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) was approved in September.

CMC inches toward big changes

The Cascade Medical Center might stop inpatient care in exchange for up to $900,000 per year in additional income from the federal government.The CMC, at 402 Lake Cascade Parkway, has operated as a Critical Access Hospital since 2000, providing inpatient care, emergency care and an outpatient clinic, among other services.Trustees are considering changing the CMC’s designation to operate as a Rural Emergency Hospital.

Lake Cascade marina open house – BOR seeks comments by April 17

The Bureau of Reclamation hosted an open house on Tuesday at the American Legion Post #60 in Cascade to gather public input on Tamarack Resort’s proposal to build a 200-slip Marina on Lake Cascade.The marina will be located in Cascade State Park within the Poison Creek Campground at the intersection of West Mountain Road and Discovery Drive.Officials were on hand to answer questions from the bureau as well as the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and Tamarack Resort.The Bureau of Reclamation has started an environmental analysis of the proposed project.Construction of the marina cannot begin until the analysis is complete, which is expected to be this fall, said Rochelle Ochoa, a Natural Resources Specialist with the Bureau of Reclamation.Public comments on the scoping period of the project are due by April 17.Comments should be submitted by email to sra-nepa-comments@usbr.gov, or mailed to Ochoa at 230 Collins Road, Boise, ID, 83702-4520.“I just like to know what the public thinks, that’s why we have open houses,” said IDPR Director Susan Buxton at Tuesday’s event.“We need more capacity,” Buxton said.
