Pile burns planned

With snowy weather arriving, the Forest Service and other agencies have no prescribed fires planned this fall, instead turning to burning large piles of wood, tree trimmings and other debris.The piles are left over from firefighting operations, firewise projects and commercial timber operations.

Vandal comeback falls short

Maddox Arnold ran for 107 yards and rushed for one of two second half touchdowns as the McCall-Donnelly football team staged a furious comeback during the opening round of the 4A State Playoffs on Saturday.But the Vandals, playing through rain and cold and on the road, came up short in the final minute against Snake River of Blackfoot, falling 17-15 and ending their season.Colt Value also found the end zone as the M-D football team wrapped up the fall campaign, disappointed, but with a rock solid 6-4 record that featured a trio of losses to top-ranked opponents.The Vandals dug an early hole Saturday, trailing 17-0 at halftime, and could not climb out.“It stings a little bit to go out this early again,” M-D coach BJ Sorensen said.

Vandal seniors win four titles

Four district titles in four years makes for a pretty good high school career for five McCall-Donnelly boys soccer players.It is a claim Vandal players Michael Foster, Bogdan Monahan, Soloman Arndt, Caleb Anderson and Toby Klasner can make after a senior season that netted another district championship as well as a fourth place trophy from the 4A State Tournament.

The McCall Vandals hockey team opened the season over the weekend on the road, going 1-3 through four games.The Vandals blanked Boise, 8-0, but lost a trio of games against Timberline (4-1), Eagle/Rocky (6-2) and Idaho Falls (9-1).The McCall team is technically not affiliated with McCall-Donnelly, but competes among the high school ranks as the McCall Vandals and are sponsored by the McCall Youth Hockey Association.
