Jack Hurty has witnessed the decline of salmon and steelhead while boating nearly every stretch of the Salmon River.Hurty works as the salmon and steelhead coordinator for the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Association (IOGA) and felt compelled to share the dire situation of the native fish among the beauty of Idaho’s rivers.Hurty will take part in a panel discussion along with experts from the Idaho Conservation League and Save the South Fork Salmon at 6 p.m.

Cascade rec center launches preschool

The upstairs room of the Cascade Recreation Center sat unfinished for years until a recent grant enabled the center to finish construction and open their first preschool program.The recreation center, located at 333 Kelly’s Parkway, was recently awarded a $3,000 grant from Perpetua Resources.The center has offered multiple after-school programs for children over 5 years old but did not have the space for a preschool program until the recent grant, said Shay Holmes, the center’s district manager.The preschool program focuses on educational learning to prepare children for kindergarten, said Holmes.
