Inwards leads Cascade swimmers at state

Cascade’s Laura Inwards wrapped up her high school career by snaring a pair of silver medals at the Idaho Swimming State Championships on Saturday at the Boise West YMCA.Inwards was joined at the end-of-season gathering by two Cascade Killer Whales teammates, Faith Powell and Jordyn Cummins.All three swimmers regularly train and compete with the local swim club, which is coached by Ryan Harrison and associated with the Cascade Aquatic and Recreation Center.

Ramblers returners key new look

The Cascade girls basketball team enters the 2024-25 season with a new coach and a clean slate.Linzie Green, who assumed the reins of the Rambler program this fall, is excited to work with a youthful group that showed pluck while going 5-15 last year.Cascade opens the season on Wednesday by hosting Vision Charter School from Caldwell.

The McCall Mountaineers hockey team welcomes the Reno Ice Raiders to town for a two-day homestand, Friday and Saturday.Games for the budding rivalry start at 7 p.m., with doors at the Manchester Ice and Events Centre opening at 6:30 p.m.McCall and Reno have enjoyed some heated matchups during the two years they’ve faced off.The Mountaineers swept the Ice Raiders during a two-game series played in McCall last November, but the Reno squad returned the favor with a pair of victories on their own home ice in March.McCall also wrapped up its inaugural year on the ice – 2022 – by knocking off the Ice Raiders on the road with a golden goal in overtime.Mountaineer General Manager Robert Lyons remembers that very moment – and expects similar high-intensity outings this weekend.

Vandals netters net postseason honors

Lexi Arnold embraced a move from middle hitter to the outside this fall and was rewarded with a selection to the All-Snake River Valley Conference First Team.Shilah and Rylee Arnold were also both named to the All-SRV Second Team, joining their sister in being recognized with postseason awards during a vote by league coaches.Honorable mention nods were also divvied out to Bisbee Henderson and Genevieve Kertz, giving the Vandals five players singled out for their performances following a 24-4-1 season.M-D coach Amber Green said Lexi surprised several opponents with her play after shifting to the outside this fall, a move made to help fill the shoes of Gabi Green, who was voted the SRV’s Player of the Year a season ago, but graduated this spring.Lexi delivered 7.5 kills, 7.9 digs and 2.2 aces per game during her own senior season to earn a first team selection after making the second team last year.
