Tamarack bike race called off due to smoke

Poor air quality from nearby wildfires prompted organizers of a high-profile mountain bike series, slated to be held at Tamarack Resort over the weekend, to call off the event.The 2024 TRP Big Mountain Enduro, billed as the premier Enduro tour in North America, was expected to bring in both professional and amateur talent to the Donnelly-based resort, which has hosted multiple mountain bike races already this summer.But race organizers nixed the event just days prior following a meeting where air quality was discussed.“It’s a shame we didn’t get to have it,” Big Mountain Enduro’s Dillon Suarez said.

Wolf Creek Fire nears containment

Containment on the 1,154-acre Wolf Creek Fire increased to 61% as of Wednesday, with fire managers hopeful to contain the blaze soon.“We will look to button it up completely as best we can in the coming days,” said Forest Service Public Information Officer Tim Phelps.The fire about five miles west of Donnelly atop West Mountain was started by lightning on July 24.
