A pair of siblings spent the last week of June testing their mettle against the rest of the state – and beyond – while representing the McCall Wrestling Club.Lily and Jed Erekson, 11 year-old twins, were selected to represent Idaho at the Turf Wars Duals in Pocatello, held June 24-25.Lily wrestled up on the Idaho 14-and-under girls team and submitted an 8-2 record while taking on the 75-pound division, defeating All-Americans from Utah and Colorado in the process.Jed, representing Idaho at boys 12-and-under, turned in a 4-4 record over two days of action, which featured Greco-Roman and Freestyle disciplines on separate days.Teams from Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Colorado and Montana also competed at the Turf Wars.From there, the Erekson duo did not have to travel far, continuing on to the Western States Championships, which were held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena.
It has been an eventful summer so far for the McCall-Donnelly girls basketball team, with players competing in tournaments, training at camps and attending a WNBA game in Las Vegas.The Vandals played in four total tournaments through the months of May and June: Boise Crash the Boards, Spokane Summers Edge, Lewis-Clark State College tournament in Lewiston and the Nets on Fire tournament in St.
