Vandals nixed despite Pedrow homer

Makenzie Pedrow belted her third home run of the 2024 campaign but the McCall-Donnelly softball team watched its season end last week with a 14-10 loss to Parma during a 3A District III Tournament elimination game.Sailor Hartley and Val Sofaly also delivered three hits each as the Vandals collected 14 total as well as a parade of doubles.The Vandals, seeded no.

Ruth stopped short of state

The future looks bright for Meadows Valley track and field.Natalie Ruth placed fifth in the 400-meters as Mountaineer athletes competed at the 1A District III Championships on Friday and Saturday in New Plymouth.“Tons of personal records and I couldn’t be happier to see our team peak at the end,“ MV coach Jared McIlvain said.Ruth, a freshman, posted a personal best time of 1 minutes, 7.53 seconds during the 400 finals, but ended up missing a spot at state by just a tenth of a second.“Natalie was fighting through a pretty rough cold that had been nagging her all week,” McIlvain said.

Vandals dominate district track

It was business as usual as the McCall-Donnelly boys snared a team title at the 3A District III Track and Field Championships, held Friday and Saturday in Homedale.Season-long standout George Speirs collected four gold medals, winning three individual races, as the Vandal boys seized a district crown, running away with it after securing 178.5 points to 97.5 from runner-up Weiser.

Cramblet leads Vandal golfers at state

Ellie Cramblet secured a top 12 finish during her final high school action as McCall-Donnelly golfers wrapped up the 3A Golf State Championships on Tuesday in Rathdrum.Keaton Swift also finished 17th during his final high school rounds, navigating 36 holes at Twin Lakes Village Golf Course with a 179 to nab a second straight top 25 finish at state.The M-D senior shot an 84 over the first 18 on Monday, slotting him in eighth after first day action.

Olson rallies on second day

Cascade’s Cole Olson rallied during second day action at the 2A Boys Golf State Championships on Tuesday at Circling Ravens Golf Course near Coeur D’Alene to nab what appeared to be a top 20 finish.The Rambler golfer shot an 87 over 18 holes to finish the two-day event and 36 total holes with a 179, bettering a first day effort by five strokes.Olson ended up 18th among the individual boys field, though results were still being parceled after darkness threatened play as the tournament concluded Tuesday evening.“It was great being able to watch him play and compete on such a challenging and beautiful course,” Cascade coach Kerie Kushlan said.Olson’s first day total of 92 featured six parred holes, including four on the back nine.
