Green chooses SVU, family

McCall-Donnelly’s Gabi Green will see some familiar faces when she moves across the country to attend Southern Virginia University, a Division III school she has agreed to represent on the volleyball court next year.The Vandal star has committed to play both indoor and beach volleyball for the Knights, who compete in the USA South Athletic Conference.

Vandals to compete in Eugene

The track and field season is not quite over for a handful of McCall-Donnelly athletes who qualified to compete at the Nike Outdoor Nationals, held June 12-15 in Eugene, Oregon.Vandal coach Freddy Hernandez said he anticipates taking a group of 9-11 athletes to compete at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.

Kitchen restored in historic Fire Warden’s House

A kitchen renovation is the latest step in a multi-year process of restoring the Fire Warden’s House at the Central Idaho Historical Museum.The museum board has been working to restore the house and return the building to its original “American rustic” design.The house was built in 1937 and has received several less than authentic renovations over the years that are now being reversed to preserve the storied structure, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.“Over the years, the kitchen had many modifications to meet the needs of the families who lived in the house,” Kathy Deinhardt Hill, museum board member, said.In the 1950’s, formica was put down over the wooden countertop.

Seven Devils Playwrights Conference returns to McCall

Plays written by McCall-Donnelly High School students will kick-off the 2024 Seven Devils Playwrights Conference on Wednesday, June 5, at the Alpine Playhouse.The conference, now in its 24th year, offers a series of free fully staged readings of plays written and presented by professional playwrights, actors and theater artists from around the country.“We’re bringing you brand new, never before heard plays,” said long-time company member Mallory Metoxen, who is now one of two new artistic directors overseeing Seven Devils New Play Foundry.Launched in 2001, the conference works with playwrights to develop and present fully staged readings of plays that are still in development.

A necessary change?

The Donnelly Public Library made waves with media outlets across the nation recently with its announcement that, come July 1, the library will shift to an “adults only” library to comply with a new state law adopted by the Idaho Legislature.But the Donnelly library has responded to a problem before one exists.The law, known as House Bill 710, was adopted earlier this year to separate supposedly inappropriate adult books and other content from children’s books in public libraries.
