Local nonprofits in Valley and Adams Counties raised about $206,000 during Idaho Gives Last week.The four-day event ran from Monday to Thursday last week with 53 local nonprofits participating and 624 statewide.

Guest golden at Probst-Walker

Nova Guest snatched gold in the high jump as Cascade track and field athletes made multiple trips to the podium while competing at the Probst-Walker Invitational last week in Emmett.Freshman Josie Leslie earned bronze in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, turning in a personal best time of 6 minutes, 1.30 seconds during the mile run.Kallyn Rogers, a senior, also nabbed third place in the 300 hurdles to go along with a fifth place finish in the 100 hurdles.Another freshman, Garrett Rogers, led the Cascade boys by snaring a bronze in the 300 hurdles with a personal best mark of 45.86 seconds.Trever Sayers also earned a share of fourth place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

Meridian woman wins Ice Break-Up Contest

A Meridian woman came about an hour and 46 minutes from guessing the exact date and time ice on Payette Lake would thaw this spring.Lisa Zeiter of Meridian was the winner of this year’s Ice Break-Up Barrel Contest, which was hosted for the first time by Adaptive Wilderness Sports of McCall (AWeSOMe!).Zeiter guessed the 55-gallon barrel would plunge into the lake’s frigid waters on April 10 at 5:15 p.m.

Vandal rally falls short

The McCall-Donnelly baseball team staged a furious rally over the final two innings, but could not dig out of an early hole during an 11-7 loss to Weiser during a 3A District III Tournament elimination game played Tuesday, ending its season.Owen Naugle came through with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including a double, during his final high school game.

Cascade shines on local links

Viktoria Stepanishena tied for medalist honors and both the Rambler boys and girls won team titles, tangible evidence the inaugural Cascade Invitational golf tournament last week was a resounding success for the host.But it almost did not take place thanks to a familiar culprit this time of year – the weather.“We thought the tournament might not happen after waking up to 2-3 inches of snow Wednesday,” Rambler golf coach Kerie Kushlan said.

Cramblet second as Vandals earn return

Ellie Cramblet snared second place and the McCall-Donnelly girls golf team seized a spot at state with a strong showing at the 3A District III Golf Championships, held Monday in Eagle.The Vandal girls have now qualified for state as a team three years running.Keaton Swift and Trevor Jue will also join the M-D contingent at the 3A Golf State Championships, set for Monday and Tuesday in Rathdrum, after turning in top individual rounds.Cramblet shot a 91 over 18 holes at the host site, Eagle Hills Golf Course, to claim a second straight top five individual finish at districts.
