Vandal bats hot in 17-3 win

Vandal hitters got hot as the McCall-Donnelly baseball team rolled into the win column with a 17-3 victory over Clearwater Valley last week on the road.Owen Naugle delivered four hits and three RBI to lead the Vandals while Seth Julian notched three hits, including a double, and drove in a trio of runs.Overall, M-D racked up a season-high 14 hits during the non-conference tilt, which stood at 9-3 before the Vandals rolled up eight scores during their final at-bat.“Our bats were hot and we were able to put up 17 runs,” M-D coach Riley Bevill said.The Vandals ended up playing a total of three varsity games in less than a week, including a 14-4 loss to Payette on Monday, which dropped their record to 1-4.M-D started the season with a couple of losses to New Plymouth, but rebounded to 1-2 after knocking off the Rams during a March 13 game played in Kooskia.James Turlington, John Hatfield and Cole Naugle also collected a pair of hits each while Cody Howard singled and drove in a run.

MV nets PRs at Fired Up

Jared McIlvain saw a lot to like as the Meadows Valley track and field team opened the season at the Fired Up meet in New Plymouth.The new head coach watched his Mountaineer athletes take on a multi-class gathering that featured schools from 1A, 2A and 3A.

Vandals amiss versus Melba – Softball team travels for doubleheader

Val Sofaly delivered a pair of doubles while Angie Dauphinais sprang for another, but the McCall-Donnelly softball team dropped the second game of a doubleheader against Melba, 12-2, on Saturday to fall to 0-4 on the season.The Mustangs also got the better of the visiting Vandals during Saturday’s earlier outing, 13-2, by jumping out to a 5-0 lead during the opening inning.M-D batters tallied seven hits despite traveling to Melba for the morning tilt, but Sofaly was not one of them.

Ramblers open with back-to-back

Nova Guest logged a top finish at the Ontario Ice Breaker last week in Oregon as the Cascade track and field team got right to it with back-to-back meets.The Ramblers also took on the Melba Ice Breaker one day later, Friday, with Trevor Sayers highlighting the trip with a bronze finish.“It was a great couple of days to kick off track,” Cascade coach Dorothy Stillwell said.Sayers did similar damage a day earlier in Ontario.

Vandals show up for Fired Up

The McCall-Donnelly track and field team celebrated its season opener with several golds and a team title for the Vandal boys last week at the Fired Up meet in New Plymouth.George Speirs delivered a pair of top finishes while Van Vinson, Jack Duncan, Josh Sorensen, Mimi Gheorghiu-Marshall, Gracie Knox and Kohvienna Bolyard also nabbed gold in individual events.But that is not what had Freddy Hernandez buzzing the Monday after.
