The McCall Winter Sports Club hosted the Intermountain Division Ski Championships at Tamarack Resort over the weekend, fielding 12 skiers in the U10/U12 event.Fifteen ski clubs from Utah, Wyoming and Idaho competed in a giant slalom, slalom and dual-panel slalom, where skiers race head-to-head on the Tango run off the Summit Express Chair at Tamarack.The event was the culminating race of the season for the division of the U.S.

Michael Fitzgerald’s long lace wedding dress flapped in the breeze as he eyed blue and red flags alternating down the ski run and prepared to lunge through the start gate.Fitzgerald and 48 other racers participated in this year’s Town Race League, a multi-week alpine race hosted by Little Ski Hill in partnership with the McCall Winter Sports Club.Fitzgerald’s team, the Brundage Patrol, wore various costumes throughout the competition, including Star Wars outfits and a Wookiee onesie, to bring levity to the weekly race outings.“Town league brings people together with the common goal of having fun,” said Cortney Bayuk, program director and events coordinator for Little Ski Hill.
Three challengers will face incumbent Valley County Sheriff Kevin Copperi in the May 21 primary election, according to candidate filings received by the county.Copperi will be challenged by Bradley Beaman, a retired law enforcement officer turned real estate agent, and Matthew Bannon, a current Valley County Sheriff’s Office deputy.The winner of the May 21 election will earn the Republican nomination to run for the top office in the Valley County Sheriff’s Office.The candidate who receives the most votes in the primary election will advance to face former Valley County Chief Deputy Jason Speer in the Nov.
