Vandals pass the test – Penny scores 25

McCall-Donnelly boys basketball players endured a week’s worth of testing entering Friday’s game versus Fruitland, then passed another by coming away with a 52-36 victory to run a streak of wins to double-digits.Sam Penny scored 25 points and Cade Anderson provided a much-needed spark during the second quarter as the Vandals shook off a sluggish start to win a 10th straight game in front of a home crowd.“Every year I say this, but finals week at M-D is brutal,” head coach Jason Tinney said.

Vandals victorious at Johnshoy

Seven Vandals snared championships Saturday as McCall-Donnelly wrestlers competed at the Ron Johnshoy Invitational in Melba, results that came despite the team missing a handful of its top wrestlers.Gavon Keegan (113-pounds, Boys A), Ethan Roberts (160, Boys A), TJ Leonard (170, Boys A), Avery Riggs (170, Boys B), Carter Tucker (170, Boys C), Van Critchfield (220, Boys C) and Finn Moon (285, Boys A) all nabbed tournament titles at the multi-class meet.Keegan, Roberts, Riggs, Tucker, Critchfield and Moon also finished weekend action undefeated.M-D coach Joel Sherer said he was pleased with the results, especially given several of his athletes have been working back from injuries and are rounding into form.“All of them wrestled better and better as the tournament went on,” the coach said.A trio of M-D’s top wrestlers, siblings Matthew Daniels, Adam Rushton and Zion Rushton did not make the trip, but that did not stop the Vandals from making their mark.Vandal wrestlers dominated the ranks at 170, with Leonard, Riggs and Tucker topping their groups to pull off a complete sweep of the weight class.M-D’s Charlie Palmer also snared second place at 138 in the Boys B division.M-D travels to Kooskia for the Clearwater North-South Duals on Friday and Saturday, then travels to Payette on Wednesday for another Snake River Valley Conference dual.Vandal wrestlers hosted Fruitland, the no.

Vandal wrestlers host tri-meet Wednesday

The McCall-Donnelly wrestling team opened a string of dual meets against Snake River Valley Conference opponents with a 52-18 win over Parma last week.But Vandal grapplers are already looking forward to Wednesday, when they will get the chance to compete in front of a home crowd for the first time all season.Wrestling action begins at 4:30 p.m.
