Montana musher wins third ISDC race

Royer to compete in Iditarod Jessie Royer won her third Idaho Sled Dog Challenge last week, crossing the finish line in Cascade in just over 50 hours, 12 hours faster than last year’s winning time. In second place was last year’s winner Josi Thyr, who also bettered that winning time, finishing less than an hour behind Royer.

West Central Idaho Youth Baseball will kick off their events with an open gym at Barbara Morgan Elementary on Tuesday, March 7, at 7 p.m. Other open gym dates include Tuesdays, March 14 and 28.

Trio of wins at Idaway

Solomon Childs, Jed Erekson and Rucker D’Lerma all nabbed gold as the McCall Wrestling Club competed at the Idaway Cougar Clash on Sunday at Caldwell High School. Childs won all five of his matches by pin while winning the 100-pound division for wrestlers ages 9 and 10.

Mountaineers get defensive

TheMeadowsValleyboys basketball team got defensive during a 36-21 victory over the McCall-Donnelly junior varsity “B” team last week in New Meadows. Koby Rivas scored 14 points and Jake Hendrix added 13 points as the Mountaineers picked up their third win this season in a game played at the MV gym.

Rec Center provides ice rink

New location in Valley County Fairgrounds The sounds of slapshots and skates scraping on ice wrang out through the Valley County Fairgrounds this month for the first time on a new ice rink built by the Cascade Recreation and Aquatic Center. Last year there was an ice rink built to the south of the facility, but it was moved to the rodeo arena at the fairgrounds because of the lights and the grandstands, said Patrick Pratchett, Southern Valley County recreation district manager.

Vandals top firstplace Homedale

Tate Ova spurred the Vandals with a massive dunk during a pivotal fourth quarter as the McCall-Donnelly boys basketball team knocked off first place Homedale, 37-32, last week on the road. Luke Scott and Rylan Pate led the Vandals in scoring with eight points apiece as the Snake River Valley Conference game went down to the wire for the second straight meeting between the schools.
