Cascade girls denied state berth

Kallyn Rogers scored 24 points, but the Cascade girls basketball team’s spirited run through the 1AD2 District III Tournament came to an end last week with a 61-40 loss to Garden Valley. Senior Kyler Nitzel also fought through extra defenders to score seven points, but the Ramblers’ quest to advance to the state tournament fell short during an elimination game played in New Meadows, the tournament host site.

Disease found in deer

Herd to be culled to stop disease from spreading A deer herd north of Riggins will be culled starting this week after it was determined to be at the center of Idaho’s only major concentration of chronic wasting disease. The disease was found in 15 deer from the Slate Creek area about 19 miles north of Riggins last year, according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Childhood education center coming this fall

District gets $450k grant to start center The McCall-Donnelly School District will open a new early childcare education and daycare center in the fall, with parents telling the district they would sign up 55 children, superintendent Eric Pingrey told M-D trustees Monday. The program for children up to five years old will be hosted in the district offices at 299 S.

Mountain lions active near river

BY DREW DODSON Homeowners in neighborhoods along the North Fork of the Payette River in McCall should be wary of mountainlions,accordingtotheIdaho Department of Fish and Game. Several sightings reported since last month have led officials to believe one or two mountain lions are staying in areas around Rio Vista Boulevard and Mather Road, Fish and Game regional wildlife manager Regan Berkley said.

Vandals drop Payette to advance

Senior Ashtyn Jones scored 13 points and the McCall-Donnelly girls basketball team topped Payette, 51-31, on Tuesday at home during a 3A District III elimination game to keep its season afloat. Gabbi Green and Jenna Thomas each added eight points for the Vandals while Cassidy Crockett came through for seven points.
