Rec board members approved

First meeting set for March A nine-person board to advise Valley County on recreation priorities was approved on Monday. County Commissioners appointed five people from McCall, two from Lake Fork, one from Donnelly and one from Cascade to a newly formed Valley County Recreation Advisory Committee.

CMC declines funding, keeps inpatient care

The Cascade Medical Center decided last week that the 40 patients treated in the hospital last year were more important than $3.2 million in annual funding from the federal government. In a meeting last week, trustees considered the option of becoming a “rural emergency hospital,” a new designation that would give the hospital $3.2 million per year under the condition that all patients are transferred to a bigger hospital within 24 hours.

Valley County gives to housing trust

BY MAX SILVERSON The Star-News Valley County Commissioners will use $1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act to allow the West Central Mountains Housing Trust to build three affordable housing units in Cascade. The decision at Monday’s meeting was the first time commissioners have used any of the roughly $9 million given to the county by the federal legislation.

ARPA money aids county investments

The Star-News Valley County has already surpassed last year’s investment profits in about half the time thanks to money from the American Rescue Plan Act and higher interest rates. Since the 2023 budget year began in October, Valley County has made about $252,000 from investments in U.S.

Snowshoe golf

The Lardos Creekbottom Boys posted a score of 8-under par to win the 17th annual Yacht Club Challenge snowshoe golf tournament recently at Riverfront Park. The Lardos Creekbottom Boys team included Rob Hines, Jarad Howard, Jarrad Elliot, Danielle Howard and Justin Congleton.

Daniels completes three-peat

For The Star-News Matthew Daniels continued his undefeated run this season by pulling off a threepeat as the McCall-Donnelly wrestling team competed at the 3A District III Tournament on Saturday in Payette. Daniels took the 152-pound division with a 4-2 decision over Weiser’s Kash Cobb to win his third district crown in as many years.

For The Star-News Wins for PLMS hoops The Payette Lakes Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Cascade, 41-40, on Feb. 14 and wrapped the regular season on Tuesday against Ontario.

Ramblers prep for district title game

For The Star-News The Cascade boys basketball team will play for a district championship today after knocking off top-seeded Council, 57-51, last week during a 1AD2 District III semifinal game played in Council. Sam Huckaby stacked 16 points with eight rebounds as the Ramblers traded blows with the Lumberjacks, who at 12-0 marched through Long Pin Conference opponents during the regular season without surrendering a loss.
