Narrow loss for short-handed Mountaineers

Jake Hendrix sank two late free throws to tie the game as the Meadows Valley boys basketball team closed out a Monday game against Salmon River with just four players on the floor. Cordell Bovey drilled a 3-pointer with seconds remaining, however, as the Savages stole one from the Mountaineers, 47-44, during a Long Pin Conference tilt played at the MV gym.

Rambler boys win third straight

Tyler Thurston scored 20 points as the Cascade boys basketball team got after Tri-Valley, 65-43, during a Long Pin Conference game played Saturday in Cambridge. Cole Olson added 13 points and Hayden Hull tallied nine points as the Ramblers moved to 11-7 overall with the victory, including 5-4 in league play.

MWSC skiers take top spots

Tamarack Resort hosts its krst big mountain competition Dominic Colafranceschi placed first in the U18 category of the Tam Jam Big Mountain Competition at Tamarack Resort over the weekend. U14 skiers Lyric Albright and Chase Dawson as well as U12 skier Scout Weiseth also took first place in their divisions.

Vandals earn first SRV dual victory

The McCall-Donnelly wrestling team spoiled hometown spectators by defeating Payette, 48-36, to pick up its first win in a Snake River Valley Conference dual last week at the M-D gym. The Vandals had lost conference duals already to Homedale and Fruitland, but against the visiting Pirates submitted some of their best wrestling all season.

Cascade cheerleaders get to compete

PHOTO BY CHELSEA TUTTLE/FOR THE STAR-N EWS The Cascade cheer team faced off against district competition Saturday at Capital High School in Boise, but fell short of its goal to qualify for state. The Rambler squad already deserves cheers for accomplishing a goal in place since coach Dorothy Olson took charge of the team in 2019: Participate in actual competitions.
