The McCall High School hockey team headed north, going 1-1 against the Palouse Bears Saturday in Moscow. The Vandals came out strong in the morning game but found themselves in penalty trouble early and often, playing much of the first two periods on the penalty kill.
U10 skier takes second McCall Winter Sports Club U12 alpine racer Taryn Pietri took first place in the giant slalom race in the North Series of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Race at Grand Targhee Resort on Sunday.
Paige Andra led the Mc-Call Winter Sports Club’s U14 racers at Snow King Mountain Resort in Jackson, Wyoming over the weekend with three top 10 finishes in three races. Andra notched an eighthplace finish in the giant slalom on Friday, 10th in the first slalom on Saturday and seventh in the second and final slalom race on Sunday She was one of six club racers to make the trip to the qualifying race for the Intermountain Division of the U.S.

McCall-Donnelly wrestlers lost a Snake River Valley Conference dual against Homedale, 42-37, last week at the M-D gym, but the head-to-head competition produced some singular highlights. Vandal grappler Matthew Daniels performed a back handspring during a match to set his opponent up for a takedown, and a video of the move is being shared on social media.
The Southern Valley County Recreation District will be governed by five trustees instead of three, with new members appointed to the newly created positions Jan. 12.
A $60,000 contract to create public art for the McCall Public Library was awarded last week by the McCall City Council. The contract was awarded to Joe Thurston, a Nehalem, Oregon, artist who specializes in producing locally-focused art.
Patrick Pratchett has been hired as the new district manager to run the Cascade Aquatic and Recreation Center. Pratchett, 39, of Cascade had served on the Southern Valley County Recreation District Board of Trustees from June 2022 to December, when he was hired as the manager.
The Cascade Ranger District of the Boise National Forest will host an open house on reducing the risks of wildfire in the wake of the Four Corners Fire. The open house is set for Wednesday at the American Legion Hall in Cascade at 105 E.
