Big second quarter burns Mountaineers

Freshman Jake Hendrix cleaned the boards for 13 rebounds but the Meadows Valley boys basketball team let a Long Pin Conference game slip during a 49-26 loss to Tri-Valley of Cambridge Saturday. Koby Rivas also scored a team-high 11 points as the Mountaineers dropped to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in league with a tough loss on the road.

Ramblers lose heartbreaker

The Cascade girls basketball team got Tuesday off, one day after dropping a hard-fought game to Greenleaf Friends Academy, 32-31, in front of a home crowd. Kyler Nitzel scored a team-high 13 points in her final game at Novotny Gym and Claire Pierce just missed a shot at the buzzer that would have given the Ramblers a victory.

Vandal wrestlers crown four in Melba

Four Vandals emerged as champions as the McCall-Donnelly wrestling team competed at the Ron Johnshoy Wrestling Invitational Saturday in Melba. Finn Moon (220-pounds), Carter Tucker (170) and TJ Leonard (145) all finished first during the tournament’s round-robin format, with Moon winning every match he wrestled.

Hip, hip, parade!

Lisa Whisnant was busy putting the “Mardi Gras” into the McCall Winter Carnival Mardi Gras Parade the last time she witnessed the parade march through downtown McCall in the mid-1990s. Whisnant and Dean Martens will see the fruits of their labors from 25 years ago when they lead the McCall Winter Carnival Mardi Gras Parade through downtown McCall on Saturday.
