McCall asks Payette for another Stibnite study

Letter says city left out of previous studies The Payette National Forest’s study of Perpetua Resources’ proposed Stibnite mine is flawed because it does not analyze how the mine could affect McCall, according to a letter approved last week by the McCall City Council. The letter asks the Payette Forest, the lead permitting agency for the proposed gold and antimony mine near Yellow Pine, to prepare a new study focused on the mine’s potential impacts to the city.

Solo skiing the River of No Return Wilderness

Tale told in free online docuseries Encountering tales of forgotten people was the last thing Dan Noakes expected when he set out to ski and hike over 100 miles across the Frank Church – River of No Return Wilderness by himself. Noakes, a Donnelly resident, spent two weeks camping, hiking and skiing across the Frank last winter, becoming one of few people known to traverse the wilderness area on skis.

Correction

A story last week in The Star-News mis-stated the timeline for Brundage Mountain Resort’s 88 homes and townhomes under construction at the base area. The resort hopes to release a timeline soon for when homesites will be released for sale and when future phases of construction involving the townhomes might begin, said April Whitney, a resort spokesperson.

Tamarack Falls decision upheld

The 124-lot Tamarack Falls Estates Subdivision was allowed to proceed after Valley County Commissioners denied an appeal on Monday that was made by 48 opponents of the development. The appeal, presented by McCall attorney Julia Thrower, argued that the development was approved without an adequate drainage plan and did not account for increases in traffic and effects on wetlands on the property.
