M-D JV boys split at Caldwell The McCall-Donnelly junior varsity boys basketball “A” team defeated Caldwell, 4524, last week on the road. The Vandals JV “B” team lost to Caldwell, 65-34, after going cold during the fourth quarter.

M-D 63, Vision Charter 2

Peyton Lathrop scored 12 points and was dynamic on both ends of the court as M-D ran away from Vision Charter, 63-2, during the second day at the Nyssa tournament. Lee Cline added six points for the Vandals, who forced a running clock via the high school mercy rule when their lead eclipsed 30 points.

Trout Unlimited offers free fly-tying classes

After wrapping a fishhook with feathers and string, Amie Pool carefully placed a tiny dab of glue at the end to keep her creation from unraveling at the end of a fishing line. Pool, 26, of McCall, was tying a common flyfishing fly called a wooly bugger at Broken Horn Brewery, where the Reed Gillespie chapter of Trout Unlimited has been offering free fly-tying classes on Sundays from 3 to 5 p.m.

Dumas scores, but Mountaineers fall

Dominic Dumas scored twice but the McCall Mountaineers hockey team was edged by the Sun Valley Suns, 4-3, on Friday at the Manchester Ice and Events Centre. Dumas collected five goals over the two-game homestand hosted by McCall, which also lost 6-3 during a Saturday game to fall to 3-3 on the season.

Holiday on ice

The 2022 Holiday Festival on Ice featuring Jessica Leatham and local skaters will be Friday and Saturday, Dec. 30-31, at 6:30 p.m.
