Linda Woods Catlin: I was born in August to Gail and Clara Haskins Woods. I was raised in Horseshoe Bend for the first two years of my life on the Woods 720 acre ranch.
Then we moved to Jackass Creek on a 17 acre farm for the next seven years. I followed my Dad everywhere he went helping him feed chickens, roofing the chicken house or irrigating. I loved my life there.
My memories are wonderful. Dad and I hunted and fished. We played outside, we worked hard and we laughed a lot - no X-Box or any of that.
My Mom taught me to clean fish, kill chickens for freezing and can and freeze veggies from our garden. It was fun when I was a kid, but then I became modernized and decided to buy it all from the grocery store.
I learned what was important in life, which was family, but was still glad to move to Boise so we could have an indoor bathroom! The happiest day of my life.
We were a very close and happy family. We moved to Boise when I was nine and I later graduated from Boise High School. I married at 17, one of my first major mistakes.
I divorced four years later and then married John Catlin. We had three kids; Shane, Karleen and Johnnie, Jr. These three kids are the greatest thing that ever happened in my life.
They eventually produced seven of the coolest kids on earth. Shane Isom, Tyler, Cody, Kealan, Micah, Myah and Madison. I teased them all often, laughed with them and loved them with all my heart. Then I divorced their father and grandfather. But it was okay, because we later became friends.
I worked at Idaho Surveying and Rating Bureau for 10 years, our print shop (C&M Printing) for many years and Mountainland Business Systems since 1991.
I made many lifelong friends over my lifetime. They know who they are. Wayne Hoyt, Ilona Maki, Jinl Noll (deceased), Bonnie Peterson, Carol Austin, Tom Mulhollen, Vernon Banks, Donna and Mike Dobson, Karelyn and Tom Wilson, Pam and Richard Wilson, Larry Gossard, Scott Diamond, Joe Best, Bud Calkins (deceased), Lisa Stephenson, Jon VanTwisk, Annie Reynolds, Steve Hauseman and Bob Brown.
I won’t have room here to name them all but those are a few. Without these friends my life would have been dull and boring. We laughed, we cried, we partied, we raised hell, we made great memories! And yes, I made a few enemies, I won’t name them here.
And then along came Ron Stevens. It took awhile but I finally conceded to that first date. We went to “The Tavern” had a few drinks and well, the rest is history. Thanks honey, for the good times. I love ya.
Besides my beautiful kids and grandkids, my other passion was motorcycles, Harleys in particular. My Sturgis trips were one of the highlights of my life. There were three in all.
My parents taught me to be fiercely independent, John Catlin taught me to be tough, my kids taught me to love hard, my friends taught me to have fun, Ron taught me to laugh.
Thanks to my brother Ron, my sister Deb for being just who they are. I love them deeply. Thanks to my nieces and nephews for being awesome people. Thanks to my kids for putting up with me, my grandkids for being the best!
I’m going to see John, my Dad (Gail Woods), my Mom (Clara Woods), my tiny baby sister, my grandparents, my many aunts and uncles who I’ve missed so deeply. It has really been a good life. In lieu of flowers you can donate to a charity of your choice.
Shane M. Catlin, 41, passed away Aug. 13, 2009 in a boating accident.
A funeral service will be held at the Emmaus Center at the Cathedral of the Rockies on 11th and Hays Street,
on Friday, August 21 at 3 p.m. under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise
Shane was born on Sept. 18, 1967 to Linda Catlin. He graduated from Borah High School in 1985.
He married Sheila Thurston and they had one son, Shane Christopher. They later divorced.
Shane married Joanne Wegener in 1989. She was the love of his life. They had two sons, Tyler and Cody.
Shane worked at the Grocery Outlet for seven years, and then went to work at UniSource for 13 years where he discovered a love for driving semis. When UniSource closed, he went to work for Treasure Valley Coffee where he had worked for the last 2-1/2 years.
Shane loved hot rods and fast cars, and movies with Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. And anytime he could he golfed, rode bicycles, or hiked to Table Rock with his wife.
He especially loved spending time with his wife and sons, much of the time being goofy - the family clown! He always made everyone laugh. Shane loved to fix things and to make things out of wood. He really had a talent with woodworking and could take a piece of wood and turn it into a beautiful piece of furniture.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Catlin, and his three sons, Shane Isom, and Tyler and Cody Catlin.
Shane was preceded in death by his father John. His mother Linda also died in the accident.
Shane, we will always love and keep your spirit alive in our hearts. An account has been established to help Joanne, Tyler and Cody in their future needs.
A donation can be made at any Wells Fargo Branch to the account in Joanne Catlin’s name.
